Il Pino won on debut as a 4 year old at Chaddesley Corbett on the 4th of December 2022. It was a hot contest with 9 4yos going to post, all racing off level weights. The race created plenty of talk beforehand with some well bred horses taking part and some excellent form from the previous season adding texture to the contest. Il Pino was ridden prominently by Will Biddick from the outset. The pace quickened considerably approaching 4 fences from home. Will sat patiently while the leaders pressed on before a late challenge, seeing Il Pino wing the second last fence and take up the lead approachingthe last. He stayed on well to the line and looks an exciting prospect for the future. This excellent debut performance earned him the position of being the Highest Rated 4 year old English Point To Pointer we have seen in recent years with a weatherbys rating of 105.
The form has worked out well, with Man Of My Dreams, who finished runner up, subsequently selling for £100,000 to Ben Pauling at the Tattersalls Cheltenham December Sale. He then went on to finish second in a bumper at Huntingdon to none other than a half brother to the all conquering Constitution Hill who ironically followed Il Pino into the Sales ring at the Goffs Land Rover Sale in 2021 when they were adjacent lots through the sales ring.
Il Pino is a huge rangey chaser for the future. Standing at 17 hands, he looked all class on debut and with time to mature and fill his frame, he has the potential to become a top level chasing prospect.
His sire, Coastal Path needs little introduction. He is a multiple Grade 1 winning sire with offspring including Asterion Forelong, Franco De Port, Bacardys and Saint Roi.
His Dam, Quant A Moi was an unraced mare by Video Rock but she is a sister to 5 winners including a black type performer Metronome and is out of a black type mare called Bacanal Des Sacart.
With all of these credentials, combined with the nurture of the Champion Trainer Paul Nicholls and the Champion point to point rider Will Biddick, the sky is the limit for Il Pino.
